Are you afraid to dream?
Many people are. If we are to think about what’s stopping you, then we have to dissect those fears to get rid of them. Yes?
You see, we all have fears. And it’s okay to talk about them. In fact, we should talk about them. When we acknowledge our fears we don’t make them real, but we become aware of how unreal, small and insignificant they are.
For this activity it’s really important to write the first thing it comes to your mind. It doesn’t matter if it makes any sense or not, just keep writing.
Here are some random examples:
A fear I have about starting a business is that I will not have time to spend with my family.
A fear I have about starting a business is that I will fail.
A fear I have about starting a business is that I would become so successful that it will change me.
A fear I have about losing weight is that I will hate my body.
A fear I have about losing weight is that everyone else would judge me.
A fear I have about losing weight is that I still won’t look good
A fear I have about having a partner is that I will have to share my house with him.
A fear I have about having a partner is that he will see my naked body.
A fear I have about having a partner is that he might be jealous.
A fear I have about talking to my boss is that my colleague would think I’m sucking up to him.
A fear I have about asking for raise is that I will be ridiculed.
A fear I have about approaching my neighbour is that he will blank me, like everyone else.
And so on, I think you get my point.
Your turn now. Take a pen and paper, or just open your phone, and start writing.
A fear I have about ____________________is that ______________________
Make sure you write minimum of three fears you have, and at least five sentences about each fear.
This can be also used as a process before doing something you are fearful of – if you are extremely nervous, just sit down and write all your fears, reasonable and unreasonable. Get them out of you.
Write them down and then tear that paper into small pieces and state ‘I will never again allow fear to keep me from fully enjoying my life.’
I’d be interested to find out what sort of results you get from this process. Please do send me your feedback.
Until the next time.
